African Taste is my go to place for African/Ethiopean cuisine. It’s definitely food that I never expected to enjoy as much as I do- certainly not something you try every day but for those of you who have yet to discover the culinary delights of African food, I highly recommend African Taste for your first experience.
African Taste is more of a modern take on African/Ethiopean food than traditional, but it still uses authentic African flavours and staples such as injera bread- a spongy flatbread with a slightly sour flavour which marries perfectly with the spices used in their main menu items.
I have been here multiple times now and each and every time the service has been friendly and the food exceptional. The beef samosas are a great starter dish and are filled with finely minced meat and African spices. The pastry has a wonderful crunch to it which compliments the softness of the beef inside.
The crumbed cauliflower is a must have dish and is possibly my favourite menu item. The flavours in the crumbing are delicious. Who would have thought something so simple could taste so amazing?
Another mouthwatering dish at African Taste, the chicken ‘fufu’ or gnocchi is a fantastic take on an otherwise traditional Italian food, only it is made from barley and infused with various African spices. The texture is creamy and I love how there is a little bit of crunch in some of the gnocchi. Make sure you get some injera to soak up the rest of the sauce! Trust me, you’ll otherwise be licking the plate clean!
Must Try Dishes:
- Crumbed Cauliflower
– African ‘Fufu’
Tips & Tricks:
- Make sure you book for dinner, especially on weekends as seating is very limited
- A lot of the dishes have an abundance of sauce in them so I highly recommend getting a side of injera if they do not already come with it.
Spinach Fufu from a previous visit- also delicious!
