1000 £ Bend is a quirky and unique spot in Melbourne’s CBD, unlike any other cafe I have visited so far. It’s retro with it’s assortment of mismatched furniture and vintage art and it’s pretty laid back- feels a bit like you’re chilling in the garage with friends. In fact, it used to be the Peter Steven’s Motorbike Repair Garage.
Despite the interesting venue I didn’t find my latte or fritters particularly outstanding to begin with. Then I discovered one thing you do not want to find in your food- a long black hair wedged in the stack.
It took about 10 minutes to flag down our lost-looking waitress (she was frantically pacing up and down the cafe trying to find out who’s burger she was holding in her hand) and then another 10 minutes after that for her to come back with my refund. There was a brief apology but she definitely couldn’t have cared less.
One of the guys who took my order (possibly the manager) then came over to me to express how sorry he was about the hair and offered me a coffee on the house which I appreciated. Unfortunately for me though, once I find something manky like that in my food it’s about all my stomach can handle.
What a disappointment.
